Know what is behind your result
Clear about the method.
Honest about its limits.
The questionnaire and scoring follow published O*NET material. Ikigain’s software has been checked against the published scoring and career-return rules. These checks are not an independent validation study of this website, its explanations or its usefulness for a particular person. Suggestions are for exploration, not a measure of ability or a prediction of career success.
The questionnaire
All 30 English O*NET Mini Interest Profiler activities are shown in their published order, with the five response labels unchanged. This implementation reuses the item set already in Ikigain’s local assessment code. It is not an AI-generated questionnaire.
Each response is stored as 0–4. Five responses contribute to each of the six RIASEC themes, giving six separate sums from 0 to 20. The API’s 1–5 response codes are not used or sent anywhere. Scores are not percentiles or measures of ability.

What Ikigain adds
The interface, everyday-language explanations, cautions, comparison, saved notes and matching implementation are Ikigain additions. The original questions and theme sums are unchanged. Tied theme scores remain tied; we do not invent a three-letter result where the order is unresolved.
If all six sums are equal, the pattern has no variation and we do not rank occupations. If every activity is Strongly Dislike, we invite answer review or unranked browsing. Using one response for 24 or more of 30 activities triggers an editorial caution—not a diagnosis or a validated response-quality scale.
Occupational matching: method and review
We calculate Pearson correlation between the complete six-score response pattern and each occupation’s six source interest ratings. All 923 occupations with complete profiles are considered, not just careers with Ikigain guides. Following the published October 2025 Mini-IP career-return rules, correlations below 0.426 are excluded. Thresholds of 0.608 and 0.729 identify stronger patterns. The initial selection hides the lowest band if more than 200 occupations remain, then the middle band if needed; you can show all eligible patterns using the strength filter. Eligible correlations are sorted from highest to lowest; effectively tied values use occupation code only for stable display. This ordering is experimental and is not presented as the official O*NET matching service, a fit percentage or a success prediction.
Correlation compares the shape of two patterns, not their absolute scale. A low-interest respondent can share a pattern with a high-interest respondent. This is why your actual scores remain visible and the suggestions must not be treated as proof that you would enjoy an occupation.
Filters select a preparation group or search term; they never change your scores. Groups reflect US experience, education and training categories, not guaranteed entry routes or how long a particular person would need to retrain.
The official API documentation still warns that its career results may differ from the public tool. We have not claimed parity with either. Source: O*NET 31.0, retrieved 2026-09-25. Source files are hashed and versioned in the local catalog.
Published rules and implementation review
The implementation uses the correlation thresholds and initial-list rules in O*NET’s October 2025 career-return report, pages 8–10. The 30 item texts, ordering, response anchors and six theme sums were checked against the 2016 Mini-IP report, scoring section and Appendix A. This is a software conformance review, not a new psychometric validation study or a claim of identical live API results.
Our integration retains the assessment content and career-exploration purpose. The Tools Developer License, section 3(b)(2), distinguishes software-only integration from changes to assessment content. Source credit and modification notices remain visible. Ikigain’s guide selection, explanations and fictional work samples are separate editorial additions, not validated parts of the instrument. You may also use the official O*NET Interest Profiler.
Privacy and control
Answers, saved paths and notes are kept in local browser storage. The Careers assessment does not upload your answers or notes, and does not send them to an AI service. These records are not connected to your Ikigain account. The surrounding Ikigain website has its own analytics and advertising systems, described in the site privacy policy. Other people using this browser profile may be able to see saved results. Avoid sensitive details in notes.
Use “Delete my assessment” on your own results to remove the saved assessment. Saved paths and notes are separate: remove paths or clear note text in their forms. Clearing site data removes all local records. If browser storage is unavailable, the test can finish on the current page, but the result will not survive navigation.
Google Fonts and illustrative stock photographs make ordinary resource requests; assessment answers and notes are not included. Public occupation codes may appear in comparison URLs. Personal results do not appear in URLs or server-rendered HTML.
