Most adult internet quizzes have not shown that they can discover a literal psychological or biological age. They may summarize the answers you chose, but that is a smaller and more defensible claim than saying a mind is “27” or “64.”
The useful question is not “is the test valid?” in the abstract. It is: what interpretation is being made from this score, for whom, and what evidence supports that use?

Historical mental age was not a personality horoscope
In early intelligence testing, mental age was an age-equivalent unit tied to performance on age-referenced tasks. The logic made most sense while children were moving through ordered developmental expectations: performance resembling the reference performance of a particular age group could be described with that age label. It was not intended as the age of a person's taste, kindness, wisdom, identity, curiosity, or whole mind.
Early ratio IQ divided mental age by chronological age and multiplied the result by 100. Modern IQ reporting generally uses deviation scores: performance is located relative to an appropriate age-normed distribution. The American Psychological Association's dictionary also states that the mental-age performance unit is not effective beyond age 14. That is a direct warning against extending a child-development shorthand into an adult life-stage number.
An online adult quiz that assigns “38 years” from preferences has therefore made a new claim. It cannot inherit support from the historical term. The publisher would need to define what the adult number represents, show why the selected prompts capture it, build appropriate reference data, and test the interpretation it wants people to make.
A name is not a method.
Reusing the words “mental age” does not connect an entertainment quiz to a standardized intelligence assessment. The items, administration, score, reference group, and interpretation all matter.

The interpretation—not the quiz as an object—must be evaluated. If one score is used to describe a current preference, predict future performance, and make a selection decision, those are different claims requiring relevant support.

Reliability is necessary in many uses—but it is not validity
A score needs enough consistency for its purpose, yet consistency alone cannot prove meaning. A bathroom scale that is always five kilograms high may be consistent but inaccurate. A quiz can also consistently reproduce an age stereotype rather than the construct it names. Evidence must address the score interpretation, possible alternative explanations, relevant populations, and consequences of use.

Subjective age is a self-perception construct
