Search vacancies using several titles—UX designer, product designer, interaction designer and digital interface designer—and check what each employer means by them. Compare location, level, salary range, research responsibility, product area and whether the role is remote or contract.
Pay attention to disclosed ranges and actual duties, not just an average from a neighboring occupation. BLS wage data covers employees; freelance revenue is different from take-home pay and must account for unpaid business development, tax, tools and quiet periods.
