02 · Response key
The visible answer stays the same; only its keyed value changes
A forward-keyed item gives 1 through 5 from Very inaccurate to Very accurate. A reverse-keyed item gives 5 through 1. The neutral response is 3 in both directions.

Ten keyed values produce each independent score
The five scales do not compete for one winner and are never added into a total personality score. The exact published key contains the following forward- and reverse-keyed item counts.

04 · Worked example
Raw sum 30/50 becomes range position 50/100
Imagine one domain’s ten already-keyed values are 4, 2, 3, 5, 1, 4, 2, 3, 5, 1. Their sum is 30. Ikigain displays the location inside the mathematically possible range as (30 − 10) ÷ 40 × 100 = 50.
50/100 is not a percentile, population rank, probability, rarity estimate or separate validated score.
05 · Interpretation limits
Why the result does not call you low, average or high
IPIP recommends using data from a relevant comparison sample when norm-referenced interpretation is needed and cautions against pigeon-holing people into type categories. Ikigain currently has no documented local norm sample for this form, so it does not invent population bands or percentiles.
The result’s three reading anchors are explicitly editorial: three equal sections of the possible 10–50 response range; editorial anchors only, not population norms. They help organize reflection; they are not official IPIP norms, clinical thresholds or evidence of how rare a response pattern is.
No type conversion
Five continua are not collapsed into a four-letter code or one dominant trait.
No value ladder
A larger or smaller sum is not automatically healthier, better or more employable.
No high-impact use
The result is not designed for diagnosis, hiring, admissions, eligibility or treatment.
06 · Response-pattern caution
A caution changes the reading, not the answers
If one visible option is used for every statement, or one option appears on at least 80% of statements, the result asks the participant to review the answer pattern before comparing small score differences. This check cannot determine honesty, effort, comprehension or validity; it only reports limited visible variation.
