Interior designer job outlook: demand and opportunities
A projection describes a population over a decade. It does not tell you how many suitable jobs exist where you live today.
The national projection is about employment, not renovation demand in your city. The outlook includes a self-employed component while the wage median does not.

Employment growth counts a change in the number of jobs over the stated period. Average annual openings, when published, also include replacement of people who leave an occupation. Neither measure identifies beginner-friendly jobs, specific employers or the effect of AI on this exact task mix.

Check your state’s practice and title rules, plus local requirements for drawings, permits, or supervision. Compare nearby employer postings for CAD, portfolio work, specialty, and site travel. Ask local firms what junior designers actually produce before choosing a course or marketing services.
Read the duties and seniority behind a vacancy before treating its title as evidence of demand for the work you hope to do. A broad occupational group can contain jobs that share a name but not the same day-to-day tasks.

Check whether a role is design-led, sales-led or technical documentation-heavy.
Repeat your search after a few weeks. A single week of ads can reflect duplicates, seasonal hiring or one employer’s campaign rather than a lasting local trend.
